Registration of Residence

Once you've arrived in Germany, it's very important that you register your address at the local city hall. We recommend you to take care of the registration within the first week upon arrival, within 14 days at the latest. The confirmation you will receive will be needed for opening a German bank account, getting a tax ID number, and other purposes.

What you need to get registered:

  • Appointment
  • Passport or ID card
  • Move-in confirmation
  • Registration form
  • Marriage certificate

Important:

The registration is free of charge, and you will receive the confirmation right away. The move-in confirmation, in German Wohnungsgeberbestätigung or Einzugsbestätigung, is a document you get from your landlord after moving in. It is different from the rental contract or booking confirmation from the guesthouse.
