IDS Verification lead (m/f/d)

Stellenangebot vom 10. April 2025

The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute; AEI) is the largest research institute in the world specializing in general relativity and beyond. The institute is located in Potsdam and in Hannover.

Our department Precision Interferometry and Fundamental Interactions is involved in the development of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA), an ESA Class L mission for measuring low-frequency gravitational waves, and in several geodesy missions (GRACE-C, NGGM) for measuring changes in the Earth's gravitational field due to antropogenic effects. Our department at AEI is responsible for the development, testing, and fabrication of several subsystems of these observatories.

For the LISA group at the AEI in Hanover, we seek a physicist for a full-time position as local

IDS Verification lead (m/f/d)

Tasks will include:

The candidate has to develop experimental setups that allow to verify the performance of LISA payload systems against subsystem or unit level requirements.

The work entails the use of units/subsystem requirements and derive verifiable experimental requirements which allow to predict the performance of the subsystems and units under test during science mode. The work entails also the development of test plans including pass/fail criteria, the interpretation of the test data and the management of the test campaigns.

Required qualifications and profile:

The candidate should have experience in relevant measurement technologies including:

  • Optical interferometry
  • Vacuum technology
  • Opto-electronics
  • Fiber optics
  • Data analysis

While most of the work will be performed at the AEI in Hannover, the position requires significant travel to coordinate the verification activities and participate in test campaigns at our partner institutions across Europe.
