Public talk “Gravitationswellen – ein neues Fenster ins Universum” (in German)
Since the first direct detection of gravitational waves in 2015, our knowledge of the universe has been enriched by a completely new window of observation – we can now not only observe the universe by means of electromagnetic telescopes and neutrino detectors, but also “eavesdrop” on it with interferometric gravitational-wave detectors.

The sensitivity of these detectors is now so high that quantum effects of the laser light used are now limiting. This talk will describe what astrophysical knowledge has already been gained in the last 6.5 years, highlight the limiting noise sources of the current and next generation of detectors, and give an outlook on the future of gravitational-wave detection.
