The State of Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation are supporting the “Quantum Valley Lower Saxony” (QVLS) initiative with a total of 25 million Euros from the “Niedersächsisches Vorab”. This decision was made today by the foundation's board of trustees at the suggestion of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. The goal of the initiative is to use the partners' potential for a development leap towards a quantum computer based on ion trap technology and at the same time to pool the excellent research projects and expertise at the locations in Lower Saxony.

Scientists from the Institute for Gravitational Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover will collaborate in the project “Quantum Machine Learning” with colleagues at the Institute for Theoretical Physics and the Research Center L3S.

“We will develop the experimental setup on which the quantum machine learning algorithms can be tested,” says Prof. Michèle Heurs, leader of the Quantum Control group at the Institute of Gravitational Physics.
