Photography exhibition “light/glimpses of light”
Researchers as photographers
From laser light to sunrise and the light of the stars: Researchers at the Albert Einstein Institute Hannover are celebrating the International Year of Light with an exhibition of their own photographs at the institute. The theme of all the pictures is Licht/Lichtblicke “light/glimpses of light”.
UNESCO has proclaimed 2015 as the “International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies”. Light is a cross-cutting discipline in various fields, for instance in science and art.
This has spurred researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics and the Institute for Gravitational Physics at the Leibniz University of Hannover to illustrate the theme “light/glimpses of light” with their own photographs. All the exhibitors are trained scientists and pursue photography as a hobby, as well as sometimes to document their own daily work.
Being trained as a scientist changes your view of the world. Is this reflected in the exhibition’s photographs? The dark months of the year in autumn and winter, in which light radiates from the photographs particularly intensively, were chosen as the time of year for the exhibition.
The pictures can be viewed on weekdays between 8 AM and 5 PM in the Albert Einstein Institute Hannover at Callinstr. 38. The way has been locally signposted. The exhibition will run to the end of February 2016. The exhibition will be closed from 22 December 2015 to 3 January 2016.
Public evening lectures are scheduled for 11, 18 and 24 November and 3 December (“Thinking beyond Einstein 2015”). On these days the exhibition can be viewed until 8 PM.
