German Research Foundation (DFG) approves new Research Training Group
Interdisciplinary project focussing on the physics of quantum mechanical noise
The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved approx. 3.9 million Euros for the new Research Training Group “Quantum mechanical noise in complex systems” at Leibniz Universität Hannover. The Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute Hannover) will receive support in the amount of 40,000 Euros annually for the establishment of two PhD positions and for research related funds.
The doctoral students involved will study intrinsic quantum mechanical noise in fundamental physical systems. This will provide a basis for practical applications for, among other things, gravitational wave detectors, high-precision measurement technology and data transmission.
The interdisciplinary Research Training Group is a collaboration between the Institute of Solid State Physics, Gravitational Physics and Quantum Optics of the Leibniz Universität Hannover. It will begin on 1 October 2014 and is initially set to run until 31 March 2019.
