Whether a mass monster in outer space, red snow, magnetotactic bacteria, melt-spinning or beneficial fungi: on Open Day you will learn about black holes, experience cold-loving algae, move bacteria around with magnets, create fibres from melted polymers and learn about the nanny services of fungi.

On 19 September, two Fraunhofer Institutes, three Max Planck Institutes and the GO:IN Innovation Centre together with the University of Potsdam cordially invite visitors to attend Open Day at the Science Park Potsdam-Golm. The institutions will present their scientific endeavours and provide visitors of all ages with a fascinating and entertaining glimpse into the world of research.

The diversified programme with guided tours, experiments, talks and hands-on activities offer young and old alike a chance to experience science and high-performance technologies up-close and live. What’s more, there will also be a service for start-ups and entrepreneurs, a study guidance service, as well as a presentation focussing on the day care centre ( Fröbel e.V.) at the location.

At our kid’s research area, young discoverers can become acquainted with the world of natural sciences with the help of floating sand, square soap bubbles and black ice. Hands-on experiments will inspire visitors to take part in a pipetting contest in the DNA kitchen, and to write secret messages with magical ink. In addition, there will be exciting talks for curious children. “Why don’t plants eat chocolate?” or “What’s the colour of light?” are the kinds of questions that will be explored in a playful way.

In cooperation with the Brandenburgischer Kunstverein Potsdam, the exhibition “Vestiges” from the “Art+Science” series will also be on display for the first time. Drawings by Heidi Sill, which were created on a “blind date” by the artist with the Brandenburg State Institute for Forensic Medicine Potsdam, will be shown.

Opening of the exhibition "Vestiges", drawings by Heidi Sill: 12:00 p.m. (main building of the Max Planck Campus, 1st floor)
Speakers:
Lothar Grube, Administrative Head of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology;
Silke Albrecht, Manager of the Brandenburgischer Kunstverein Potsdam
