The Theoretical Astrophysics group at the University of Potsdam (led by Tim Dietrich) is opening up to two postdoctoral positions. The group has strong ties to the Max Planck Fellow group “Multi-messenger Astrophysics of Compact Binaries”, as well as the “Astrophysical and Cosmological Relativity” and “Computational Relativistic Astrophysics” divisions at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics. We work on a variety of research fields, among others, numerical-relativity simulations, gravitational-wave modeling, the modeling of electromagnetic signatures connected to binary neutron star and black hole-neutron star mergers, as well as multi-messenger astrophysics and its connection to nuclear physics. We are interested in hiring creative, proactive, and motivated candidates with experience in at least one of the research areas covered by our group.
The positions are funded by the University of Potsdam, and it is expected that the successful applicant contributes to the teaching activities at the University with an equivalent of 4 teaching hours/week. The position will be for two years initially, but further extensions are possible depending on performance. The salary and social benefits (e.g., health insurance) are based on the collective labor agreement for the federal states (TVL) for the German public sector, usually at pay grade E13 (ranging from gross 55,000/year to 75,000/year depending on seniority and qualification).
