Stephan Weil visits the Albert Einstein Institute in Hannover

On June 1, 2016, the Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil, visited the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) and the Institute for Gravitational Physics at Leibniz Universität Hannover. In conversations with the directors Bruce Allen and Karsten Danzmann he informed himself about the contributions of the institutes to the first direct detection of gravitational waves in September 2015. He also got informed about the central role they play in the international research community.

While visiting laboratories and the computer cluster Atlas the Prime Minister learned about the latest developments in this field of science and about the plans for the future of gravitational-wave astronomy.

“The technology developed at the Albert Einstein Institute for gravitational-wave astronomy is proof of the creativity and competitiveness of science in Lower Saxony. During my visit I got fascinating insights into cutting-edge research,” says Prime Minister Weil.
