Main Focus

My research focuses on the evolution of binary systems consisting of a stellar mass black hole/ neutron star, and a supermassive black hole, known as Extreme Mass Ratio Inspirals (EMRIs). In particular, I am interested in how the secondary object’s trajectory can be modelled using the gravitational self-force along with techniques such as the method of osculating orbital elements, near identity transformations, and the two-timescale approach. The goal of this work is to produce computationally efficient waveform models for use with the upcoming LISA mission.

Curriculum Vitae

I am originally from Ireland where I did my Bachelors in Theoretical Physics at University College Dublin from 2014 to 2018. There I met my my future PhD supervisor, Dr Niels Warburton, and worked with him during the summer of 2018 to develop a VR experience to demonstrate black hole physics to the public. I obtained a postgraduate scholarship from the Irish Research Council to pursue my PhD Applied and Computational Mathematics from September 2018 to October 2022. As of November of 2022, I am now a postdoc at the Albert Einstein Institute.
