A dark sphere is surrounded by a yellow vortex and set against a starry background.
A little over ten years ago, in September 2015, a new era of astronomy began. Since then, we have been observing the universe in a whole new way: with gravitational waves.
With a global network of kilometer-scale detectors, an international research community regularly “eavesdrops” on collisions between black holes and neutron stars. This talk explains how these observations work, what we learn from them about these celestial objects and the universe, and what the future holds.
