In order to create new perspectives for the coal regions, a large-scale research center is to be established in Lusatia. The German Center for Astrophysics (DZA) has applied for this place and shows with international charisma an essential impulse for a future-oriented change in the Lausitz.
A center is to be created in which the data streams of various astronomical observatories will converge. Digitalization will also be advanced and a technology center will be built to develop new techniques for data evaluation. In addition, the installation of the planned European Einstein telescope in the granite stock of Upper Lusatia is being investigated.
Prof. Michèle Heurs (Leibniz Universität Hannover) presents the ideas of the DZA as a national center with international visibility, driving resource-saving digitalization, developing new technologies, transfer to industry and creating new perspectives - firmly rooted in Lusatia.
