Public talk (in German) “Urprall statt Urknall – Was geschah vor 13,8 Milliarden Jahren?”
Did the Universe have a beginning? Did space, time and matter emerge from a first event that we conventionally call the “Big Bang”?

This is at least the prevailing view of physics since about fifty years. However, there are good reasons to question this view and consider an alternative possibility. Perhaps our expanding Universe is the result of a “primordial bounce”, the transition from an early epoch in which space, time, and matter slowly contracted before they would expand again. It may even be that the cycle of contraction, primal bounce, and expansion repeats itself. We could be living in a cyclical Universe where our past is, in a sense, our future. In the lecture we will pursue this new thesis and contrast it with the conventional picture of the origin of the Universe.
