Images of Science

Invitation to an online exhibition with piano music. Due to the corona pandemic, public events in cultural and scientific fields have been canceled. The exhibition wants to offer a crossover between culture and science.

April 22, 2020

The Max Planck Institutes for Gravitational Physics, for Colloids and Interfaces and for Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam-Golm collocated a small collection of their "Images of Science" for an online exhibition.

Images of Science

The corona pandemic with the associated contact restrictions changes not only our private lives, but also our cultural experience. Museums are closed, concerts and film screenings are canceled. But not only the culture is affected, also the communication of science to the public is interrupted. The Potsdam Science Day, Public Days and tours and lectures in the research facilities have been postponed to a later date. But with the help of modern technologies, it is possible to bring culture and science into your own four walls. Of course, this is not the same as sniffing the theater air or experiencing science on site, but it is still an opportunity "to partake" and "take part"!

#WeStay Home - #ScienceHome - #kulturBB

That is why the Max Planck Institutes for Gravitational Physics, for Colloids and Interfaces and for Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam-Golm collocated a small collection of their "Images of Science" for an online exhibition. They include high-resolution images that give insights into the interior of plants, microscopic images of nano and microstructures, and numerical-relativity simulations of black holes and neutron stars. The images come in a variety of shapes and colors and offer insights into the ripples of spacetime, hidden dimensions of matter and the secrets of plants. The images are accompanied by calm and contemplative piano music. The Max Planck Institutes wish visitors to their online exhibition a lot of fun seeing and hearing.

If you want to have a look at the pictures online without music, you can do so here.

Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology (MPI-MP)

As part of a holistic approach, scientists at the MPI-MP are concerned with understanding the interactions of the processes that occur in plants. The goal is to understand plant growth and make predictions about their behavior.

Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute)

With its locations in Potsdam and Hannover, it is the world’s largest research institute on general relativity and other related topics.

Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces

Research is focused on the investigation and control of very small and thin structures in the nanometer and micrometer range. These tiny structures determine the properties of materials and bio-systems.

Music

The music comes from musician Async Ross who grew up in Potsdam. He studied at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston with a focus on composition, songwriting and film scoring. He graduated with distinction in 2017 and since then has lived and worked in Los Angeles and Potsdam.
