Former AEI postdoc receives Heinz Billing Award for scientific computing

Tim Dietrich has been a postdoctoral scientist in Prof. Alessandra Buonanno's division at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in Potsdam from 2015 to 2017. The award, endowed with 5,000 Euros, recognizes Tim Dietrich's leadership in computer-aided relativistic astrophysics and his contributions to giving science and the public new insights into complex astrophysical processes.
The Heinz Billing award was presented to Tim Dietrich today in a ceremony during the meeting of the Chemistry, Physics and Technology Section of the Max Planck Society at the Harnack House in Berlin.
The Heinz Billing Prize for the advancement of scientific computation is awarded biennially by the Heinz Billing Foundation of the Max Planck Society. The award is supposed to recognize young scientists‘ outstanding contributions to computational science. The awardee receives a certificate and an endowment of € 5.000. The prize is named after Prof. Heinz Billing (1914-2017), formerly director at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics and chairman of the Advisory Committee for computers in the Max Planck Society.
