From 10 to 14 December 2026, about 25 physicists who earned their doctorates under Professor Stephen Hawking will gather for a conference in Hanover, Germany, at the invitation of the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute, AEI).

Entitled “The Hawking Legacy – A scientific meeting and get-together”, the event is dedicated to the scientific work of Stephen Hawking and his former doctoral students. Honoring the world-renowned scientist, who died in 2018 and whose work continues to shape physics today, the conference program consists of about 30 talks on scientific and historical topics.

Bruce Allen (Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics) and Ian Moss (Newcastle University) are organizing the meeting.

Media representatives are invited to attend the conference on Thursday, December 11. Interviews with participants can be arranged subject to availability and prior agreement. Interested media representatives should contact Benjamin Knispel, the press and public relations officer at the AEI in Hanover.
