Description The GriKSL project, funded by DFN-Verein (project number TK 602 - AN 200), is aimed to develop new tools and techniques to move compute-intensive applications to the Grid. It builds on the results of the predecessor project TIKSL, and concentrates on three main areas, which are, in our view, important for the future development of Grid technologies:
  • Grid-awareness of applications:
New techniques are to be developed which allow scientists and developers to utilize distributed resources (the Grid). These techniques have to be application oriented, and shall include a number of practical tools and services enabling scientific communities to integrate Grid environments in their daily work. In this project, these developments will base on the 'Cactus Computational ToolKit' (CCTK).
  • Description and handling of large scale distributed data sets:
Tools and techniques are to be developed which allow to describe and handle really huge data sets, which are potentially distributed over various resources. These data sets may represent physical files on storage systems, or continous areas of memory inside a running large-scale application. They may inherit complex dependencies from each other, caused by hierarchies of simulations and computational grids.
  • Tools for remote and distributed data visualization:
Tools, techniques and software environments are to be developed which allow users to analyze and visualize simulation results in Grid environments. This work will enhance the solutions of the TIKSL project, and also result in new tools especially designed to handle data hierarchies and large scale data sets as routinely produced in Grid environments.
