There
is a good description of the way to the AEI in this link and
you can additionally have a look at the AEI map
If
you are staying in Potsdam/Golm you might find a map
of Potsdam useful
(pdf file) as well as some information on Potsdam
(have a look at the links on the bottom).
If
you prefer a larger city, this is an interactive map to Berlin
and some
information on Berlin.
How
to get to the institute(s) from Golm train station :
Please read the section "By train" of this link in order to find out how
to get from Potsdam train station to Golm.
Make sure you take the train
to Wustermark
Train
to Wustermark
Once you've arrived
to Golm train station (third
stop from
Potsdam train station), you have to get off from the right side of the
train (in the direction of motion
of the train). Then you have to
cross the
tracks and get to the other platform.
To do so, just go to
the stairs that lead to the bridge
Usually
a lot of people will be doing the same way
Follow
them and the
the indication "Max
Planck Campus".
Once you're on the other side
go
up
the few steps
The
way is indicated with blue signs (starring Reinhard Prix)
that lead you to the beginning of the
path to the AEI/Fraunhofer
Institute. If you're lucky some people will be doing
the same way and you just have to follow them. Otherwise don't worry
because it's rather simple. You can either bear right at
the junction
The
LEFT one is the official path
or left. The right path is the fastest
but has
the
inconvinient of having to cross a hole at its end. The left one is the official
one.
If
you
go the right path
Way through a field
you will go a
nice path
through
a field on whose right side you will see a building on construction. At
the end of the path you'll see the
famous
hole
Bottomless pit (starring Badri Krishnan and Stas Babak)
which you'll have to cross (a bit of
gymnastics is good!)
It's not that dangerous. We just have one casualty
every 10 scientists.
If
you
go the left path
The official asphalted way
then you'll walk an
asphalted way which
is actually goes around the field
In any case both pathes converge just behind the hole and you have to
follow
the way
We're closer
until on your left you leave the MPI
guest house
MPI Guest House
Just
follow straight right
and behind the main building you'll see the AEI.
After about 25m to the right from the "famous hole" you'll see a post to the entrance to the
IAP (Fraunhofer Institute) where the first session takes place on Monday at 9h30
and also many others. We will signpost the way to the room 1.404 of IAP anyway and post a bill
with LISA Astro-GR@AEI. Just follow it.
