Data Analysis
The high amount of data which is recorded nearly permanently by the ground-based running gravitational detectors (GEO600, LIGO, Virgo) needs to be searched for signals of four different sources which are expected to emit gravitational waves: Supernovae, merging compact binaries, pulsars and the cosmic background. Therefore, large capacities of computing clusters are required both for data storage and data analysis. Furthermore highly efficient computing codes need to be developed.
Projects:
Development and application of highly efficient algorithms for data analysis; application and further development of the home computing project Einstein@Home; Construction of a computing cluster (2000CPUs, 500TB storage)
