Welcome to the Children’s Day Care Center of the Max Planck Campus in Golm. We would like to introduce you to our day care facility, which opened in July 2007. MPI staff members may apply for day care for their children at the age of 3 months to 3 years. Our facility flexibly deals with the individual needs of the families, thus improving the work-life balance. Currently, day care is provided from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, it is possible to adjust the times according to individual needs.

Places and Equipment
Our facility currently can accommodate five children. The flat of 100 m2 has been redecorated and furnished, for the children to feel more comfortable and secure. The large, bright rooms offer the children much to see and to discover. Our child minder, Marina Eckert, a state-registered child care worker and remedial teacher, compassionately attends the children’s first attempts at walking, speaking, and even the pains of teething. In the near future, Mrs. Eckert will be supported by another colleague, increasing our facility’s capacity to ten children.

Financing
The day care facility is funded by the three Max Planck Institutes, as well as by the Jugendamt (youth welfare office) Potsdam. While the institutes take care of the equipment and the maintenance of the flat, the Jugendamt and the salary-dependent contributions of the parents fund the child minders.
Parents who would like to enroll their child into our day care facility must meet the following conditions:
- One parent must work in one of the Max Planck Institutes.
- The other parent must also work or be engaged in another activity (i.e. studying, language course, etc.) for at least six hours per day.
