A limited number of PhD scholarships for applicants holding the equivalent of a German Diploma, Staatsexamen or Master of Science is available. The IMPRS provides office space, use of the library facilities and computer systems. In addition the Max-Planck-Institute for Gravitational Physics can assist students in the search for housing, dealing with authorities and the like. In addition foreign students may receive stipends to cover the costs of German language courses.
Ph.D. students are offered a scholarship which is free of tax and social insurance; health insurance is mandatory and must be paid by the student. The basic monthly allowance is 1340 Euro, which may be increased depending on family status.
The IMPRS provides support for students to visit specialists in their fields at German or other European institutions with whom the IMPRS is connected. There is also a limited budget for participation of students in conferences or workshops at these partner institutions, or for short invitations of specialists to deliver advanced lectures at the IMPRS.
