4. Visit of the Einstein Tower
Participation in this visit is possible also at short notice.
The Einstein Tower was designed and built by the famous architect Erich
Mendelsohn in the years 1919 to 1924. The tower was constructed as a solar
observatory and was the most prominent research institution of that kind in
Europe until the Second World War. It was named after Albert Einstein
because it was supposed to allow proof of Einstein's Theory of Relativity
through observation. Due to Mendelsohn's interest in Einstein's work, some
the spirit of the exciting developments in modern physics of the time is
captured in the building: The Einsteinturm is one of the rare examples for
the marriage of science and art, as the architect managed to merge the
scientific content with his own concepts of form.
The expenses will be 5 to 10 Euro per person dependign on the number of participants.
